The impact of human activity has reached every square meter of the earth and even exceeded its limits (for example through carbon dioxide or nitrogen emissions). Nobel laureate chemist Paul Crutzen even suggested calling the Earth's new geological age an "Anthropocene" because the Western dual understanding that nature functions independently of human influence is outdated. Thus, every one of us personally are now responsible for the use of natural resources. Typically, we think that national governments or huge corporations have to be those who would take action and fight against all global issues. But even there, individuals, who have their own interests, might have the final decision based on their personal values, knowledge and ethics. That means that only education can change it globally.
In the world's geopolitical scene, we now see power games for the influence of world's ecology. Based on the negative international community's response to the US stance on the environmental regulation, it can be argued that environmental policy is currently one of the most important tools in shaping the political power and positive image. However, we have to start from ourselves. The three basic things individuals can do is choose to recycle, save water and save electricity. I'm so happy to participate in such project as SAVES 2. This project educates and motivates students. I think that energy saving is going to become the no. 1 habit for everyone. And it is not only a trend but also the way to a higher quality of life. Reduced emissions result in cleaner air quality and a healthier planet. And this is how I want to see my world in the future.
