A second academic year of SAVES 2 at the Technical University of Crete (TUC) has just finished! Plenty of interesting activities like photo competitions, energy-saving competitions, training sessions, meetings and events took place in the second semester of the 2018-2019 academic year. And most exciting of all, TUC dorms managed to decrease their energy consumption by 12.1% compared to the academic year 2016-2017!

More than ten photo competitions were open to students during the last academic year, in which students living in the dorms and in private homes took part and won prizes for themselves. ANEK lines, as a local sponsor for the campaign, rewarded the winners, offering them ferry tickets.

video was created by a TUC student ambassador. Three ambassadors presented three tips focusing on energy-saving methods at home: wash your clothes at 30 degrees, defrost your freezer and open the window (or door) when cooking to avoid moisture build-up.

The TUC SAVES 2 team, including student ambassadors, visited the university’s halls of residence to give updates on the project and encourage residents to sign up to support the campaign. These face-to-face visits were helpful in understanding student’s behaviours & opinions, learning how they implement energy tips and if their energy behavior has changed.

As in the previous year, at the end of the academic year (May 2019) the SAVES 2 team organized a celebration party. This event took place on campus and had videos, updates and refreshments provided by a local company. TUC students enjoyed the event and many new students came along, to celebrate the year and learn more about SAVES 2!

In a couple of months, a new academic year will begin in TUC and the team has already started to make all the necessary preparations to welcome the new students. Stay tuned and don’t forget to save energy  J !
