The academic year at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) started with a number of SAVES 2 campaign activities. Around 4,000 students from the dormitories of VGTU are involved in the energy saving competition, with additional 6,000 students living in private accommodation. We are proud that our university community is trying to save more energy every year.

Traditionally, as the previous Student Switch Off campaign (which took place at VGTU as part of SAVES 1), SAVES 2 started with the fresher’s fayre event at VGTU. Numerous students pledged to save energy and showed interest in the campaign during the event. Subsequent student ambassador training sessions went very well resulting in 17 trained students at VGTU. During the school year these students are involved in various activities, such as photo competitions, surveys, etc. Student Switch Off T-shirts and jumpers are given to the winners of the competitions.

Students leaving dormitories and moving to private accommodation this year are being informed about the importance of Energy performance Certificate (EPC) rating as part of the Student Switch Off + campaign. Students are additionally introduced to a number of useful tips on energy saving in private accommodation, specific to the Lithuanian context.

New events at VGTU will take place all year round, so stay tuned!
