The University of Cyprus welcomed the official start of the 2018-19 academic year at the beginning of September 2018, and specifically on Monday 3rd of September. Orientation events for all students began in late July into mid-September, while our student hall residents moved into their rooms on Friday, 31st of August.

We geared up to inform all students about SAVES 2, starting from attending the orientation events in late July, August and September, and by being present on the admission day of students to our Student Halls.

On Admission Day, we set up a stall station with leaflets and pledge/consent cards for residents to sign up. In addition, we set up a Facebook Themed Photo Frame and many residents were happy to take a photo, holding various SAVES logos. We asked residents to sign up to our campaign, and like our Facebook page; we gave paper bracelets with the SAVES logo to those that did sign up. On the same day, in the common area of each student hall floor, where there are television sets, a video with past photos and events was playing for further promotion.

Meanwhile, our Resident Assistants are eager to take part in the project, and have already signed up as Student Switch Off Ambassadors for the campaign. For about three weeks now, since the start of the semester, our personnel and our enthusiastic Ambassadors, reminded the residents of the practices for saving energy with emails, and face-to-face visits.

Likewise, for Student Switch Off+ (SSO+), on newcomer’s orientation events, we were present with similar stall stations and the Photo Frame Booth, along with the pledge consent cards. Paper bracelets once again were given for the students that signed up, and many of them were happy to take photos and ask more information about the campaign.

In addition, for SSO+, we are currently preparing this year’s advice and information about saving energy practices for students in the private sector, and gathering the emails of the students living outside our student halls. We are meeting with Cyprus University of Technology located in Limassol, in order to cooperate with them in forwarding advice to their students, therefore reaching more and more students living in the private rented sector.

At the moment we are gearing up to prepare for our photo competitions, Ambassadors Training Events,  Energy Training Session for students living in the private sector,  and other fun stuff, all planned in October!

Here is to another fun year!
