Every year in Queen Mary halls there is a competition for the most coveted item around, Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. The winner this year of the NUS Student Switch Off competition was Floyer who managed to reduce their environmental impact by 24.5%! To celebrate the Student Switch Off team with Residential Support held a BBQ and Ice Cream party at Floyer on Friday 3rd June. With the rain being held off and some beach themed décor it was a great success, with residents enjoying their well-deserved award.

At the beginning of the year most residents will have been aware of the SSO competition and likely engaged with it. However, as the weeks continued when the busy life of uni takes over it can be difficult to keep energy saving in mind when you have three deadlines. Thankfully, throughout the year the Student Switch Off team (often with ice cream) has been there to keep us on track with various energy saving tips and competitions. It has certainly paid off!

The sense of competition between halls, amplified by the rankings of halls being in clear sight of all, is always an incentive which successfully paid off for Floyer. A big congratulations to the Residents of Floyer and best of luck next year to the other halls!
